Introduction

For building precision machinery, it is critical to understand the precision of raw parts: straightness, thickness variation, length variation, etc. This page lists typical tolerances. Understanding these tolerances allows one to propagate errors to determine the overall precision, accuracy, and repeatability.

Length Tolerance

  • 2020 aluminum extrusions are cut to +/- 0.5 mm, but precision cutting to +/- 0.2 mm can be ordered from Misumi - [1]
