Basics

  • This page explores the fuel efficiencies of various engines

Research

  • 17 kw generator - 1.6 gallons per hour at 8000W. 5 kWhr/gal.

[1].

  • Honda 1kW EU1000 generator - 1 quart per hour - 4 kWhr/gal
  • Diesel tractor trailer truck engine. 260 hp at 65 mph. Fuel consumption of 6 mpg. This is 24 hp hr per gallon or 18 kWhr/gal mechanical power,

about 16 kWhr electrical. [2]

  • Lister 6/1 efficiency - 6kWhr electric per gallon diesel. [3]

Diesels

  • Diesels have a specific fuel efficiency as low as 200 g/kWhr for low speed high torque diesels.[4]
  • With diesel at 6.9 lb/gal, 200 g = .44 lb is 0.064 gal/kWhr. This is 15 kWhr per gallon diesel. Or 14 kWhr per gallon electric.
