Basics

  • Keyboard Switches that are SMDs
  • VERY modular
    • This is the switch, so the pcb, case of the hid device, and the keycap/button, are all modular and seperate
    • They are sold in single-keyswitch modules, so if a single one breaks only that one needs to be swapped etc\
  • MANY varieties, main ones are:
    • Cherry MX Style Mechanical (Spring and plastic mechanism)
    • Hybrid (Spring around a cazpacitive dome)
  • Hydrid may last longer? Needs more research
  • For personal use it is very personal with haptic feedback sound etc
  • For commercial/industrial use mainly use "silent" + "linear" switches
  • Film sealed flat membrane aren't available in this form? Memebrane tend to be more waterproof? touchscreen with protective cover may be better for this application

Sourcing

Cherry MX Style
