Basics

  • Seperation of various gasses via semi-permeable membranes
  • Can be used for many applications, main OSE ones are:
    • Air Seperation
    • Hydrogen Purification
    • Methane Purification
    • Gaseous Ammonia Purification
    • Carbon Dioxide Scrubbing
    • Removal of Water Vapor from Gas Streams (Membrane Dryer)
  • May require a Cascade approach, but can be more compact than other methods
  • Also can have a high throughput
  • Main challenge is membrane sourcing

Diffusion Rates Chart

  • Need chart of the "Diffusion Constant ( D ) of various gasses
  • Supposedly Fick's laws of diffusion is used for this? need maths person

Membrane Chart

  • Somehow determine diffusion rates of various gasses through various materials (probably much existing research on this)
  • Hydrogen diffuses easily through many materials, to the point it makes storage problematic, simple plastic sheeting in a cascade may work?
