Chris Manning served as an aviation electronics technician in the US Coast Guard, then studied chemistry and engineering at Framingham State College. He gained a deep appreciation for systems, troubleshooting and graceful degradation from his experiences at sea and in the air. These were very helpful in graduate and post-doc experiences developing infrared spectrometer systems, at Duke University and University of Idaho, respectively. He founded Manning Applied Technology, which developed time-resolved infrared spectral tools from 1993 until 2012 with the assistance of SBIR and STTR funding. More recently he has worked on spectrometer systems, subsystems and components at Mettler Toledo Autochem and Thorlabs.
