Basics
- This page aims to act as a conclusive list of various machines/products past and present that would be of use in an OSE Context, and which can only be further understood by Reverse Engineering
- Looking through Patents and/or Industry Footage/Documentation may work for some things, but in many cases not so much hence this page
- This is ESPECIALLY true for Items made by Companies that No Longer Exist, and/or with Skillsets No Longer Used
List
Engines
- Hot Bulb Engines / Crude Oil Engines (of interest due to being Fuel Agnostic to an extent, yet not as complex as a Turbogenerator )
- Many of these are also referred to as Stationary Engines , but some of those are just Spark Ignition or Low Pressure Compression Ignition Engines, and thus short of providing interesting cultural/historical value, and potentially some examples of "They Don't Build Them Like They Used To" type design decisions, aren't too relevant
- Compression Ignition (Or At Least Heavily Fuel Agnostic Rotary Engines
- Complex OTS Engines (Granted they put in a pile of R&D, and it is high complexity, but getting into the guts to be able to scale it down may be of use if one could magically get their hands on some of these!)
- Toyota Dynamic Force Engine or at least the very interesting Direct Shift CVT that works with it (although Mechanical CVT s are quite complex)
- SkyActiv X / Spark Controlled Compression Ignition
- Any working reactivity controlled compression ignition engines, although this probably fits better on the "From Literature Only Reverse Engineering" page whatever that would be named
- Hayes M1030-M1 Diesel-Powered Kawasaki
- This was a COTS Motorcycle Adapted to meet the Single Fuel Standard , some exist on the used market, and this would be PERFECT for a Compression Ignition Power Cube / Diesel Power Cube
- Turbines:
- IHI Dynajet 2.6 Portable Microturbine Generator (A Generator comparable to many others, but more Specific Power AND IT'S A FREAKING GAS TURBINE!)
- How they quieted the exhaust (if they did so) would be especially of interest, "Hush Kits" for jet engines, and Mufflers aren't too well documented design wise, as most DIY types aren't concerned with such things, or worse yet actively promote louder "tuned exhausts" etc
- JetCat / KingTech "RC Jet Engines" Either for use in Turbogenerators, or turbojets
- Main thing would be dimensions and alloys, especially since we would not be trying to replicate their model of Investment Casting and the ecosystem of FLOS CNC Milling, Grinding, Laser Turbine Balancing etc is either already there or would be OSE developed i feel it's not stepping on anyone's toes per se (Granted there are a few DIY Turbojet designs out and about, at least on YouTube, so to be ultra cautious just go off of that/from scratch designs, not on any reverse engineering)

Transmissions
- Toyota's Human-Friendly Transmission used on their Honda DN-01 "Cruiser Style" Motorcycle
- A CycleTrader Search shows these are available
- Not Cheap at 5,000-10,000 USD, but between having a full design ready to go post-reverse engineering, and having a well rated form of transit (albeit i am not in favor of using them, at least on public roads due to the risk involved) could be worth it, especially if the cost was split over a dev team perhaps. Granted then you have the cost of that vs cost of developing a new one...
- Toyota Direct Shift CVT
- Monitoring Metal Particles in Gear Oil over time, maybe in a "continuous run" rig in some Accelerated Aging Test kind of deal would be of use
- These may begin to be entering the used market / scrapyards etc, granted probably not cheap...for now
Misc
- Mcor Technologies Ltd 's 3D Printers which cut and glued printed sheets of paper to make full colored models
- If soaked in some sort of Epoxy etc you almost get into Fiber Reinforced Plastic areas too...
- Avegant Glyph
- A somewhat novel HMD
- Made by a company that seems to be clinging on, but isn't doing too great and the product was a bit of a flop
- Still really neat though, basically used a DLP Projector + Lenses to project an image directly onto one's eyes
- Thus it is similar to a VR HMD, but somewhat more lightweight, and projects a rectangle without filling one's peripheral vision which can be of use as a FPV RC Control hmd type thing
