Truly collaborative design may be said to be equivalent to lifetime design. When people collaborate, they share standards because interoperability is desirable from a Democratic Technology perspective. Standards must be transparent, therefore the design must be transparent. When the design is transparent, it is easy to fix, maintain, or modify - by widely accessible, easy-to-source parts. Lifetime.design is the result of easy maintenance - for as long as the user chooses to do so. Therefore, lifetime design is an Affordance or typical outcome of truly collaborative design.
