I was looking into this the other day! Granted for Simtronics rather than Simulink but yeah.

Being at that Alum Plant surrounded by SCADA and all that + reading up on biopetrochemistry stuff had me looking, and Simtronics basically has a bunch of Virtual Control Rooms for just about every process you can think of!

MATLAB / Open Source Alternatives to MATLAB is another thing worth perusing, but that Model Based Design is a bit above my level (for now at least…)
