Existing Designs

Main Problems

  • Crappy Seal
  • Dry Rotting

Potential Routes for Development

  • Novel Materials
    • Less Prone to Dry Rotting / Rubber Reversion
    • If feeling REALLY fancy too could have some of that Passive Antimicrobial Additive / Antimicrobial Treatment (like the Silver stuff) so that mildew etc CANNOT form
      • ALTHOUGH proper storage makes this not needed
    • Material Compatibility may be a bit of an issue
      • Given venting Fuel Tanks and whatnot while people work inside them is the main use case, you need something VERY hydrocarbon-resistant, also may have some Acid/Base/High Temperature issues for the few jobs that aren’t some sort of Fuel / Petroleum Product
  • Better means of connection
    • Having something like a Cam Lock fitting would be nice
    • The current form typically consists of a janky/dry rotted Nylon Strap+Metal Buckle system, and you somehow put one hose / the Drawstring Bag like section over the other, cinch it down, then somehow magically make that a seal that can handle blower fan pressure
    • With enough Duct Tape + Time ANYTHINGS POSSIBLE, but some sort of fitting would be a much cleaner, faster, and elegant solution
      • A Cam Lock fitting, although potentially made of Plastic / FRP ( “ ESD Safe Forged Carbon Fiber “ if you wanted to be VERY fancy) to save weight, especially for 15 inch ducting etc
      • ALTERNATELY even if no fitting is used, having a rigid section at each end to allow for an easy to hold together and tape area would aid in sealing as well
