While they don’t make sense in 90% of applications versus a Non-Humanoid Non-Generalist Robot, but rather a Specialized Robotic Vacuum and Robotic Sorter etc, for the few applications they DO make sense in (essentially the initial Darpa Proposal / how the robot dogs can’t walk up curved tank farm stairs etc there is ONE oshw project, but probably less dexterity than Boston Dynamics Atlas , hard to make intrinsically safe, dependent on premapped movements/teleoperation (The Mechanical Turk Issue ) and also C O S T L Y
I’ll grab links though

- A Video by the YouTube Channel “Angela Collier” Titled “humanoid robots belong in the trash”
- Clickbaity title to an extent, but hear her out
- There is some background in terms of “When it actually matters to the plot that something is accurate” (ie The Expanse/Intersteller vs the use of a “It Just Worksium-Drive” and it being fine etc…versus that Lucy movie where the premise RELIES upon the dumb science and is inherently bad etc
- ~16:55 is where the discussion on Humanoid Robots work
- Also was the distinction between Humanoid Robots, and Robotic Persons (as it was put in Pluto)
- Ie a dishwasher is a robot, a humanoid robot in this sense is not a person, it is a dishwasher in the humanoid form. A Non-Human Consciousness in a Synthetic/Electromechanical Human Body is a whole other rant
- 27:44 is where specifically the Human Shape Issue is brought up (before that it was moreso battery discussion which could POTENTIALLY change with technology)
- The Robot Cell without a Robot type issue is VERY important too
- You either use Soft Robotics/Heavily Limit the Robot’s Performance…or have to go out of your way to make sure it doesn’t accidentally knock someone down/crush something etc
