The idea of partnering with a University was simply the idea of using an existing educational structure (it could be a University, School, even an Online Training Provider that has an existing student population) that's designed and already resource to offer educational programs. They could provide you with a location for your event, your students, and even your source of income if they have an interest in having a large group of their students go through one of your builds. What you bring to them is expertise in Open Source manufacturing and the specific "product" you'd be building during their event.

I imagine there are a number of schools that would like to have their students build, and possibly go home with, a 3D printer and they might fund that opportunity - or market it to their population and host the program. So yes, then you could just "show up," teach the course to the group that they register, and leave with your payment.
