"The Largest Forums for CNC Professional and Hobbyist alike!" Registration needed for posting, "business profile" registration possible (free I think), might be able to message moderators re: drawing attention to call for Sprint participants.

DIY Lil CNC. Open source desktop CNC mill. CAD plans, build instructions, and DXF files available for download. Site says "if you prefer to work with us directly, we’re happy to offer our services in person." Version 2.0 says still in beta, but website was last updated 2 years ago.

Project Shapeoko, "an opensource CNC machine which may be used for milling, lasercutting, 3D printing, cutting fabric, etc." Open hardware, open software. Forum is active and has 2000 members, registration required to post.

Mantis 9.1 CNC Mill. Full plans, BOM, and build videos available. Content of page is CC by SA. Page has not been updated since Nov. 2011. Creator David Carr's blog bio reads "I'm a graduate student in Information Ecology at the MIT Media Lab interested in the creation of low cost machines that enable personal digital fabrication." Sounds like our kind of guy. Email address provided is, but blog page also has not been updated since 2011.
