Tips and Tricks for Hosts
Arguments about money can quickly lower instructors' and hosts' spirits. Make a written agreement specifying who gets what and who pays what. OSE recommends the following scheme:
- Shares of revenue is calculated directly from instruction work hours done on the workshop day
More complicated schemes introduce risks such as misunderstandings and management overhead. A host is responsible for involving only instructors that is believed to do a good job with both preparing and instructing.
Communicate a lot and about everything to find solutions. If host is still surprised by high workload during workshop preparations and instructors are unable to contribute more, cut down on the number of participants and inform instructor(s) that their potential instruction work hours will be limited. This solution is preferred over inventing complicated revenue schemes.
