Naming conventions

Following steps at FreeCAD BOM Generator to set up a naming scheme for the printer. There are over 300 individual parts in this printer and every one of them will eventually have a place here on the wiki. Proper part organization is key!

Prefixes

  • UF - Universal Frame
  • UC - Universal Controller
  • UE - Universal Extruder
  • HB - Heated Bed
  • FH - Filament Holder
  • X1 - X Axis
  • Y1 - Y1 Axis
  • Y2 - Y2 Axis
  • Z1 - Z1 Axis
  • Z2 - Z2 Axis

Names

Part names should follow these rules:

  • Names are all one word followed by a unique number
  • Use CamelCase writing (capitalize each word for better readability)
  • Measurements are all in mm
  • Prefix + Part Type + Size (screw size, LxWxH, etc) + other important distinctions + SPACE + Unique number

Examples: A screw in the extruder could be named UECapScrewM3x20 001 The top plate in the heated bed could be named HBSteelPlate220x220x3.175 001
