This is a review of both the fabrication strategy and other elements:
- Go through Fabricability Checklist
- Design for Tolerancing Review
- Tool choice - is the proposed tool choice effective, or could other tools speed up fabrication?
- Location of fabrication
- Fabrication strategy - Should we build in house or outsource to another producer?
- Review of materials sourcing - could cheaper, closer, better, local, or other materials be substituted.
For materials sourcing - we want to use non-strategic resources. Non-strategic resources are ones that are by their nature abundant - such as clay for smelting aluminum or soil for growing plants for bioplastics - and do not tend to cause resource conflicts over their procurement. Reliance upon non-strategic resources helps to bring about peaceful relations between regions. From the OSE perspective, it is useful to figure out how to provide needs via reliance on common, abundant feedstocks.
