Distinct Part Count
This is differentiated from Unique Part Count.
Distinct Part Count is a qualitative measure, in case of unique part count being identical, where a different but simpler part is used. For example, instead of a 'combination double decora plate with one blank', we can use a 'double decorator decora plate' with a blank insert. The blank insert is a simpler way to organize parts: less expensive and more common to source. The higher expense of 'combination double decora with one blank' indicates the difficulty in sourcing - typically the higher prices refer to specialized items. This validates the introduction of the concept of 'distinct part count'.
