Distributed Kit Production
Product Development
OSE has numerous projects that are ready for productization. The question is: how to execute productization most effectively? Who can we partner with?
Approach
To partner effectively, some challenges include:
- Assuring that production engineering is designed for COTS distributed production
- Outsourcing some development: instead of doing it in house, provide uncompromising requirements. Assure that uncompromising requirements are met through proper incentives.
- Incentives: how do you create the correct incentives so that OSE Specifications are met for COTS production engineering, open source, nonexclusivity.
Strategy
- Select production partners based on willingness to comply with OSE standards.
- Align incentives for compliance.
- Use nonexclusive agreements
- Develop marketing channels - packaging, fulfillment, etc.
- Select a single, robust, stable product such as the Universal Axis with subsystems.
- Create a concept document
- Gather partners or collaborators to help develop this
Key Issue to Address
Superstar product doesn't lead to changing the world. We must find a way to create genius teams - simple collaboration that succeeds in the best way. The reward is products that are simply superior.
Is there any essential feature that makes the product superior?
- Ethical production is key. Few corporate giants are willing to internalize social/envi issues as much as we are going it
- Distributive - by definition, corporate structure does not allow distribution - and that shall be its weakness
- Corporations cannot build in passion, unless they are distributive. So ethical/distributive is our key.
Counterarguments:
- Corporations can top-down fund big projects
Potential Partners
- Crowd Supply
- Seeed Studio
- SZOIL
- Kit production - businesses
- Kit production - startup entrepreneurs
