Ductile Iron
From Open Source Ecology
- How it's made - by adding magnesium, nodules of carbon form, leading to not fractures, but malleability - [1]
- Very castable - such as for vises. Melting point of only 1150 to 1200C. Doable in electric kiln. [2]
- It's also high carbon steel - but round graphite nodules make it more malleable. [3]
