Essential Production

Essential Production is the production of those goods that are indispensible to survival - namely food, shelter, energy, and other materials. This distinction is made for 2 reasons:

  1. Essential production always has value independently of global market forces, because local demand of such essential items is always present. Because such production always creates value that can be used locally, it is the starting point for community resilience.
  2. Essential production is a desirable core activity for providing essentials, but does not imply that trade should not occur on non-essential goods and services
