Graphite
Uses
- Electrodes for arc furnaces are made from graphite.
- This includes an arc furnace for smelting aluminum (Hall-Heroult)
- Readily producible from charcoal, sand, and electricity via the Acheson process - [1]
Making Graphite
- Graphite is made from Silicon carbide [2]. Silicon carbine is made by a carbothermic reduction of sand and charcoal with an electric arc.
