Gravity Battery

Basics

  • A form of Energy Storage in which Gravitational Potential Energy is used for storage via raising and lowering a mass
  • Unlike Pumped Hydroelectric Storage which utilises water and a turbine/pump system, Gravity Batteries typically use motor/generators, or in the case of small ones for electric lights etc simply use a small electic generator and human work to raise the mass
  • Not too much potential, may have some utility in ULTRA long term, passively stable (unlike FES or most chemical storage methods, especially if the "lifting device" is decoupled) systems, but these are a very small sector of uses?
