While a User-Replacable Alkaline Battery Box in designs would alleviate this (as well as more durable Cell Designs) Alkaline Batteries such as AA Batteries or AAA Batteries are notorious for Leaking and thus Corroding Electrical Contacts etc
HOWEVER Storing devices with batteries is convenient
Thus a “Keep Batteries In the Device, but Check it Every X” policy is a nice compromise

Lead Acid Battery Maintenance
- Basically how often to check it, Fluid Levels (if it is not an AGM Lead Acid Battery or Vented Sealed Lead Acid Battery etc
Rechargeable Battery Maintenance
- How often to recharge due to Self Discharging and not wanting to get below that minimum voltage etc
- Corrosion Checking is SOMEWHAT relevant for Rechargeable AA Batteries / Rechargable AAA Batteries , but not as critical
- Also checking for damage to that outer roll, Well Designed Battery Boxes and/or using an intentionally weak pry tool, rather than a metal screwdriver etc will help with this
- Checking for the “spicy pillow” with Li-Ion batteries such as those used in Laptops is good for safety
