How to Manage Complexity 101

To manage complexity, one must bound, and thus reach The Edge of Knowledge. For once the boundaries are detected, one knows what is inside. This is a good metaphor because the edge can be described. By locating content or knowledge edge, we can know what is inside, and what is not. This way, one can bound or limit the amount of energy one needs to budget to understand or appreciate what is inside the boundary.

This is the whole key to the Survey Approach of wrapping one’s head around a topic. To do this successfully, one must create complex neural nets to relate and hook one topic to another.

Non-Aristotelian Logic must be applied to create neural nets, because neural nets are fluid and change - and thus our understanding changes reinforcing the Core Tenet of General Semantics.

Therefore, a scoping approach is a critical tool for reaching Edge of Knowledge, and this helps one not get overwhelmed. One already has hooks onto which to hang more knowledge, and therefore energy is not spent in trying to create those hooks - or to stimulate neurons without creating plasticity of neurons. It’s as if one is running wildly out of control, getting tired, and not reaching a destination. This may be a correct metaphor for the process of getting overwhelmed, but it should be explored to make corrections especially as we introduce NMR and other scans of the brain to detect activity.
