Hybrid Organizations

Dear Open Source Ecology,

We, David Hilmer Rex and Aslak Aamot Kjærulff, are writing on behalf of Diakron, an organization based in Copenhagen, Denmark.

We are currently developing a project titled Hybrid Organizations. The project is an effort to re-think the future of the danish welfare state, and state and enterprise apparatuses in general (in collaboration with the Danish Building Research Institute and the Danish Ministry of Housing, Urban and Rural Affairs and four other artist/researcher-founded organizations based in Denmark).

Our interest concerns how new types of organizations are shaping emerging landscapes of research, ideas and cultures (of art, science, politics, economics, technologies, etc.). Here 'hybrid' refers to the ways disciplines and ways of engaging in issues are merged in new types of organizations, that overspill categories and concepts originating from modern sector-divisions. And ‘organizations’ refers to interests in what it means to organize rather that what an organization is; the concerns, considerations and constraints involved in making new types of organizations.

The research process will take place during fall 2015 and be documented on a publicly accessible plaform. We are looking to visit / collaborate with organizations in Europe, North America and Oceania (we are contacting places like unMonastery, The Long Now, The Center For Land Use Interpretation, Senselab, Enspiral and others). What these visits will yield is collaboratively decided with the organizations we visit.

The formats that these visits and collaborations will contribute to, apart from the ongoing research documentation are exhibitions, workshops and a digital magazine, all designed to open up discussions of the topic ‘organizing’.
