Innumeracy and Scientific Illiteracy
This is the inability to count. Counting is particularly relevant in science, where quantities of matter, energy, time, and distance result in all known phenomena. Physical phenomena such as pressure, temperature, reactivity, dynamics of motion, structural strength, visibility - and all derivative physical and biological phenomena that depend on fundamental quantities.
Innumeracy is more than just counting, such as dollars in accounting. Numeracy is a fundamentally important skill that allows people to understand and build their world.
For which reason, numeracy is a critical component of scientific knowledge.
Scientific illiteracy leads to manipulation by 'experts' and politicians. Scientific literacy is a prerequisite to an informed and democratic society.
