Kei Trucks
From Open Source Ecology
Basics
- A Category of Work Pickup Truck from Japan
- Along with the Microvan they are designed partially to cirvumvent vehicle legislation by qualifying as a Light Duty Vehicle , HOWEVER their Small Size and Nimble nature, despite still being quite capable, makes them a very interesting and often useful piece of equipment
- Pretty much all must be Imported, HOWEVER huge used market, and typical Honda / Toyota Reliability etc
- Somewhat unsafe on Public Roads, especially in the USA / North America , due to the Increase in Size of Vehicles in the North American Market Over Time (Largely due to Pickup Trucks as a Status Symbol (not just a "work truck", but for dropping little timmy off at soccer practice etc)
- However if used onsite or driven on roads with lower speed limits etc they are fine
- Similar concepts are being made and sold out of China now on Alibaba etc, however given the Cost and Complexity of Importing Products and the Stereotypical Chinese Quality (which is VERY true in this case, RE the " Doughnut Media " Video ) they aren't worth it short of as a Project Car or barebones frame
