Land Use Reform

OSE proposes making land abundant by allowing higher density to be developed using existing lots.

  • This is already being done in concepts such as Accessory Dwelling Units, where an existing lot allows the build of another living unit.
  • New legal forms for land tenure may be used. Examples are Georgism. Does Georgism actually work?
  • What if land that is dedicated as a Universal Basic Asset is held by a public-interest trust with Land Stewardship Governance to promote regenerative use? If land can be held out of the speculative market, that is a simple solution. One instance is: buy up a boatload of land, and charge affordable rent, and provide education and enterprise support such that the affordable rent is part of a long-term sustainable business model. The idea is - snap up land to treat it as a common good, with strong ownership agency displayed by the stewarding trust.
  • Create land-based enterprises which allow diverse and smart uses, with New Civilization Governance.
