- How do you identify a topology map point with an actual place on the land?
- How to use a GIS to map trees?
- What is the state of art in technique and accuracy for capturing topographical features?
- Aerial drones with LIDAR can now capture 600 acres of data in a single day with 2 inch accuracy of height.
- $8k puck for UAVs with 32 lasers and 700k measurement points per second. 2.2 lb, can be put on an octocopter. Effective range is 80m - works with 20m/s fixed wing airplanes. - [2]

Different Ways to Generate Topographical Surveys
- Many new software packages are available, led by Leica, Iwitness, DroneMapper, Photomodeler and others. Drone photographs processed using photogrammetry software can produce 3D accuracy that is equal to or better than conventional aerial photography. Standard GIS software and AutoCAD can be used to stitch and georeference drone aerial photos. I have obtained surprisingly accurate 2D results using an iPhone and GIS software. -
