WHO are you?

  • Name - Louis Thad Getterman IV
  • Location (city, country) - Bertram, Texas
  • Contact Information (email, phone, Skype) - info (at) BrokenSidewalkFarm (dot) com
  • Resume/CV - (Private)
  • Hobbies and Pastimes - Reading, Learning, Philosophy, Writing Software, Theology, Creating/Hacking/Learning/Tinkering with Technology, Trying to keep up with our responsibility as stewards to fix the World. :-)

WHY are you motivated to support/develop this work?

  • Do you endorse open source culture?

With sweat, blood, and tears... LITERALLY.

  • Why are you interested in collaborating with us?

Success of Open Source Ecology ensures success of my project (specifically, the steam/electricity angle is almost singlehandedly the crux of the solution for my needs) which revolves around a few theses of mine:
1) What happens if we apply the BitTorrent Protocol to the Food Supply?
2) What happens if we apply vestiges of A.I. (most notably Computer Vision and Machine Learning) and Physical Computing to Agriculture (e.g. trying to automate an Aquaponics/Square Foot Garden combination)?
3) What happens if we apply Augmented Reality to Agriculture with Android-based cell. phones?

  • Are you interested in teaching about the GVCS?

Yes. Ideally, would like to nab the 24 acres of land on the front of mine which is the "busy" road and build a model demonstrate there.

  • Are you interested in economic relocalization possibilities arising from the GVCS?

On so many levels, Yes.

  • Do you want to use the GVCS technologies yourself? Do you want to build them yourself?

Yes

  • Are you interested in starting up enterprise using the GVCS technologies?

Yes

  • Are you interested in having the GVCS technologies fabricated by your local custom fabricator?

If by "local custom fabricator" you mean on-site at Broken Sidewalk Farm (BSF,) then "YES!" :-)

  • Are you interested in applying the GVCS to third world development? To redevelopment of crisis areas? To development of derelict areas in the developed world?

YES! THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT MILESTONE 3 OF BSF IS ABOUT!!!GUYS, THIS IS MUSIC TO MY EARS and goes in hand with my concept of "Grow and Go!" Food Systems that I visualize, and so desperately am trying to implement.

  • Are you interested in starting up Industry 2.0 flexible fabrication enterprises for your local community, by drawing from a global repository of freely down-loadable designs and fabricating using open source fabrication equipment?

YES!

  • Are you interested in the potential of the GVCS for developing local food systems?

YES!

  • Are you interested in doing academic studies/papers, publishing books, or doing other analysis of our efforts?

I'm not the best at this, but Yes.

  • Are you interested in financial investment opportunities arising from our work?

Long Answer: Money can be a side-effect of making something awesome.Short Answer: Yes.

  • Are you interested in the distributive economic aspects of our work, and if so, how do you see this playing out?

Sadly, I'm not quite sure I understand the question. If you mean helping employ people in the local community with jobs/work so that they can feed themselves, then the answer is Yes.

  • Are you interested in building renewable energy production facilities based on open hardware (solar concentrator electric, wind, biomass power)?

This is the crux of the solution for BSF!

  • Are you interested in building resilient communities based on access to the GVCS?

Yes

  • Are you interested in creating a bug-out hut using GVCS technologies?

My guess is that you're talking about something like the OSE Solar Cubicle?I could easily see something like this being used to help those in need of housing due to economic constraints, as well as disaster relief (think Japan's current nightmare that they face)

  • How do you think that the GVCS can help alleviate the instabilities of global monetary systems?

By bring the economy back to the local community *WHERE IT BELONGS* instead of in the hands of special interests that have no regards for People, the Environment, or Life in General.

  • How do you think that the GVCS can address issues related to resource conflicts?

Permaculture is a key part to the solution, and I'm always frothing at the mouth about the First Law of Thermodynamics since society seems to lose focus on where things come from, and where they go. To put it bluntly, "Out of sight, out of mind" is a stupid philosophy that must not continue.
Example: If you're using methane harvested off of kitchen scraps (think ARTI Biogas System) instead of killing the little indigenous brown people of whateveristan for their fuel, then you're not only being an environmental steward, but you're avoiding conflict that arises out of sheer greed, as well.

  • How do you think that the GVCS can address issues of overpopulation?

Quite honestly, I don't believe in overpopulation.
There's 2 ways to take this:
1) When you improve living conditions and standards, births reduce dramatically (IRONIC, I KNOW!) and drop down to what, 2-3 children? 2 is balancing out the eventual death of the parents, and 3 is if your house isn't loud enough (which then leads to lower life expectancy rates, and thus population is balanced out.) :-)
2) If I crunched my numbers remotely correctly, we could move the entire world's population here to the great Country, er, State of Texas, and everyone in the world could live in a 1,000 ft square foot house (might be back to back, but that's what the suburbs and cities are anyways) with the rest of the world being devoted to natural conditions.

Altruistic concept that would never happen (well, there is Fukushima...) but definitely a highlight about why I think overpopulation is an incorrect term.

  • How do you think that the GVCS can address issues of resource depletion and environmental degradation?

Same reason that you use less water when you have a metered water bill in your apartment, versus a pooled water bill for the entire complex.

  • Do you have any other comments that you'd like to make?

I'm excited about all the possibilities and overlaps of our two separate projects and how we can assist each other to try and start healing the species and the world.

  • What should happen so that you become more involved with the project?

BSF's "Dodgeball Team" visiting OSE for a month is a good place to start.

  • What are you missing in the project?

Mine or Yours?
Mine: Lack of motivated people with intense discipline.
Yours: Sometimes I feel like I'm drinking from a Fire Hydrant when trying to keep up with the OSE Wiki and the OSE Blog, alone.

  • What are your suggestions for improvement of the project?

Hard for me to offer the suggestion that people nag me about for BSF's site: More clear and concise how-to instructions, and people tend to complain about the torrent of information."1 finger pointing at them is 3 fingers pointing at you." :-)

WHAT

  • What have you already contributed to the OSE project? (technical contributions, blogging about us, financial support, organizing events, translations, interviews, video editing, publications, publicity work, behind-the-scenes work, CAD work, wiki contributions, computer support, etc)

This is a private matter between Marcin and I.

Business Plan: Yes.
Corporate CFO: No.
Resource Development: Off and On.

Sociology

  • Personally, roll somewhere between Theological, Common Sense, Ethical, and Anarchist.

I honestly have no idea how one could avert Plymouth Colony without running it along the lines of a private kibbutzim.

Home Economics

  • Cook: Yes.

Cook for group of 20: "I pity the foo."
Grow Food: Poorly, hence my focus on trying to automate a Square Foot Garden. :-)
Experience: Maintained an amazing garden when I was a child, and have been trying for a year now to lift something off of the ground here in Texas out in the middle of my field.
Food Processing: No.

Design

  • I use Google Sketchup to try and do things virtually (e.g. build a Humanure Composting Bin) since I am not a very good real-world carpenter, and thus have to base real-world on Sketchup.

Learning to build circuits as we speak, and as Will and I crash course through Arduino.
Power Electronics Design: Learning it right now.

Building

  • No, but BSF has one of those guys as well.

Electronics and Magnetics

  • No.

Automation

  • No.

Metallurgy

  • No.

Engineering

  • No, but BSF has one of those guys as well.

HOW can you help?

  • How are you interested in contributing to the work of GVCS development?

Give BSF marching orders, and depending which "Dodgeball Team" that BSF has assembled is the one that will try and roll at OSE's beck and call.

  • Can you volunteer to work with us, and if so, how many hours per week?

However many you want, and quite honestly, whatever it's going to take to improve the world.

  • Are you interested in working with us for pay? If so, what services can you offer, and what is your hourly or per-project rate?

BSF doesn't pay, so I don't know how I could expect OSE to pay me.

ABSOLUTELY.

  • Are you interested in purchasing equipment from us to help bootstrap development?

I would need more information about this.

  • Are you interested in bidding for consulting/design/prototyping work?

No.

This is between Marcin and I.

  • Would you like to see yourself working with us on a full-time basis?

YES, though sooner or later would like to get this kicked off in Bertram, along with BSF's chapters/network which require 2 things to be listed:1) Organic.2) 10% of produce be given to the poor, widows, and orphans; and gleaning would be a big-time bonus.

  • Are you interested in being part of the world's first, open source, resilient community? The GVCS is the preparatory step for the OSE Village Experiment - a 2 year, immersion experiment (2013-2014) for testing whether a real, thriving, modern-day prototype community of 200 people can be built on 200 acres using local resources and open access to information? We are looking for approximately 200 people to fill a diverse array of roles, according to the Social Contract that is being developed. This may be the boldest social experiment on earth - a pioneering community whose goal is to extend the index of possibilities regarding harmonious existence of humans, ecology, and technology - as a beacon of light to benefit of all people on Earth.

THIS SOUNDS PRETTY AWESOME! Not sure where I'd fit in, but count me in!
