Good work on myths of back injuries, with emphasis on mechanical testing. Appears to be most current, seminal work.

Notes

  1. Discs between vertebrae are not shock absorbers but instead, the flow of fluid in compressed vertebral bodies does shock absorption. Makes sense considering basic hydraulics.
  2. Sleeping more than 8 hours causes back pain, due to increased flow of fluid into the vertebrae disks. You are taller by 2 cm when you wake up, and stiffer until the fluid leaks out under load.
