Hi Fred,

I am the founder of Open Source Ecology (OSE) - see my TED Talk - http://www.ted.com/talks/marcin_jakubowski.

I would like to inquire if you can review our simple foundation design for a small Compressed Earth Block structure - for structural integrity.

My calculations are here- https://docs.google.com/a/opensourceecology.org/presentation/d/1ZfrvXvAP8u8e7hrkF55pZuakQkJRRPKJPb4K3w-2HmA/edit#slide=id.g3761a0abd_31

We are doing a one story addition to the back of an existing structure, 53 feet long by 15 feet wide, with a 1' wide wall and 1' thick footer. I have gone through a deflection calculation for concrete, and concluded that a 6"x12" foundation with 5 sticks of 1/2" rebar would give us L/800 deflection and a safety factor of 10 for tensile strength.

I would like to get your feedback if this makes sense. If you cannot provide this service, then I would like to ask you if you could suggest another engineering consultant to verify the calculation for OSE.

I would like to explore whether this design could be verified as code-compliant in Missouri, zone 5. It is intended for use with a shallow insulated footer -

Thanks, Marcin

Hi Joe I am the founder of Open Source Ecology (OSE) - see my TED Talk - http://www.ted.com/talks/marcin_jakubowski. We are building a CEB home in our next workshop - and I wanted to ask for assistance in somebody doing foundation calculations - can you recommend somebody? My calculations are here- https://docs.google.com/a/opensourceecology.org/presentation/d/1ZfrvXvAP8u8e7hrkF55pZuakQkJRRPKJPb4K3w-2HmA/edit#slide=id.g3761a0abd_31 We are doing a one story home, with a 1' wide wall and 1' thick footer. We are aiming for 5 days for a simple 750 sf structure, finished to in/out finishing detail. Thanks, Marcin
