Microtasking

Abstract: One of the keys to crowdsourcing work by a developer community - while addressing Heavyweight Product Management - is creating a work breakdown structure based on microtasks. Microtasks are small tasks for each contributor, which combine to a larger effort. Microtasking is useful in processes which are well-defined - such as identifying subject matter experts or doing CAD work where a large number of parts have to be developed. Microtasking is useful for work that would otherwise be laborious or repetitive - as opposed to creative - if performed by a single person. The low entry barriers to microtasks allow for wide participation, and when combined with more creative design work - microtasks can provide a significant contribution to solving complex problems. Microtasks are an essential component of modular development.
