Purpose

  • Update folks on immersion
  • Share a survey to have convos to start off marketing convos and better understand who we should be talking to.

A successful new event

We finished our first immersion experience, a 5-week program that trains OSE Fellows who work full-time to hold public workshops and to steward the development of machines in the global village construction set. This is an important milestone in bringing Open Source Ecology from prototype to enterprise as we improve how we support communities in building themselves and their world. Here were some takeaways from the experience:

  • Improved documentation standards - we adopted a documentation process that makes building our machines more accessible to total beginners
  • Collaborative Workshop Teamwork - we planned a workshop model that increases collaboration between participants for better workshop outcomes
  • Setting workshop expectations - we reflected on how expectations should be better communicated so that participants understand we are actively developing and improving on prototypes and not distributing finished products
  • Holding space for group processing - we created space for participants to share their feelings in a safe space so we can understand our collective needs
  • Governance for full-time team - we adopted formal decision-making processes that let the team have control over how they do their work

The two OSE Fellows are now in California preparing to give 3D printer build workshops and 3d printer design training. We're excited about the next Immersion in April 2019 where we plan to cover heavy machinery that makes building the seed eco home more accessible.

Future outlook

We are actively seeking ways for Open Source Ecology to generate income by holding education workshops, building community-scale infrastructure, and supporting entrepreneurship. Right now, we're doing research on what people's needs are so we can best decide how to support the OSE mission with revenue.

Our one ask: chat with us and let us listen to your needs

If you'd like to chat with us and help us understand what you and your community need and find valuable, that would help Open Source Ecology in big way. We're here to listen. Please fill out this survey so we can reach out to you: (link).
