Hey Ethan,

Thanks for chatting. Here's a recap of how Open source Ecology can run an event at Port Makerspace and both benefit:

    1. About the Workshop

The workshop is designed to be an 8-hour build where up to 6 teams of 2 or more people build a 3D printer. Participants build the Open Source Ecology 3D printer, which has the lowest unique part count in the world, making it easy to build and understand. To see more info about the workshop, including printer specs, our nonprofit mission, and the workshop schedule, please follow this link.

    1. Space Requirements

Each building team needs a 6x4 foot table for their work station, so about 500 square feet would be great. We'd also need WiFi and electrical outlets. Other than that, we bring all the tools and parts necessary to build a 3D printer.

    1. Pricing

One more note about our workshop model. We charge $799 to the individual or organization that takes a 3D printer home for parts and instruction. However, we invite all folks interested in how 3D printers work and making open source hardware to participate in the build for free.

    1. Benefits for Port Makerspace

We propose that for all paying workshop participants that Port Makerspace brings into the space, that Port Makerspace take 30% of the profit from their workshop fee. The printer material cost is $499. We charge $799 for labor for a $300 profit. Port Makerspace can make up to $600 by bringing in 6 building teams.

Also, because the workshop is free for anyone to participate, it can be a great event to bring new people to the space. Friends and curious onlookers can visit for brief bursts, get a taste of building, and have some fun.

Both Open Source Ecology and Port Makerspace can promote the event through our social media channels. Open Source Ecology will also promote the event through Google Adwords and other means. Folks register through our site, and we can use a unique link and Google Analytics to track the origin of paying participants.

We'd like to hold the first event on Saturday November 24, 2018 from 8am-8pm.

Open Source Ecology is actively evolving the kinds of events we hold and is open to closer collaboration on the kinds of things we do, such as building a 1 meter printer, replicating an open-source CO2 Laser, teaching CAD design to teachers who run makerspaces, and building other open source industrial machines. We'd love to see how this collaboration grows into what could be a monthly rotating event held at Port Makerspace.

Looking forward to hearing back.

Best, Alex

We're flexible in working together to make this an event that really serves your community. Looking forward to chatting about next steps.
