Msg from a 3D Printing Dentist

Dear Alex,

Sorry if I was a bit abrupt. In terms of 3d printing for medical/dental, I will personally be using it for the following: 1. surgical guides for implants (figuring out where to drill the hole) 2. dentures 3. clear aligners (like invisalign, but better)

Other ways 3d printing is currently used: 1. surgical models for prebending titanium splints for maxilofacial reconstruction. 2. 3d printed maxillofacial prosthetics (look up the Ashley Technique). 3. Likely 3d printing custom implant parts, to be casted prior to insertion. I'm not sure how accurate this process is, as the finished surface is pretty critical.

As for 3d printers/scanners, I'll be using the package from Micron Dental in Arizona. It's using a masked LCD SLA process (similar to the Prusa SL1 printer, but with a bigger build area). I'll be using the Shining DS-EX scanner (yes, I think they had a sense of humor in naming the product).

As for further things to look into, try talking with Dr. Cory Glenn of Blueskybio. He's the industry though leader for dental 3d printing/scanning.

ps. Can you send me info on your workshop this upcoming saturday? i'd like to go.
