OSE Goals
From Open Source Ecology
Main
- Global Village Construction Set - a set of machines and institutions required to build a small scale civilization with modern comforts. Note that the original formulation included 50 machines, the GVCS Proper. However, the mission of OSE was expanded to include an institution construction set, having realized that material prosperity is only a small part of human prosperity - as in Maslow's Hierarchy. Institutions involve abstract concepts, such as family, manufacturing, freedom, education, etc - but they are implemented in tactical and practical ways. OSE intends to contribute to a blueprint for civilization that builds upon all human knowledge and thus creates better institutions. The claim is to create paradise, such as that promised by humanists, demagogues, and religions alike - so in this sense this is nothing new. The new part is an honest attempt at execution, over a period of at least 60 years, or 3 generations. The current concept involves the introduction of open collaboration as a norm in society, which is feared and shunned by mainstream enterprise, at the same time as it is the progressives' unobtainium. Our current study of the problem statement concludes that there are 3 main challenges to widespread adoption of an open and collaborative culture of abundance:(1) need for hierarchy (top dog and bottom dog) - and hence gross oppression; (2) religion - in its validation of irresponsibility in the form of others taking care of problems for you instead of one being responsible for the world around oneself; and (3), millennia of competitive mindset stemming from the reptilian brain fight or flight response, resulting in strong wiring for a scarcity mindset. Therefore, any civilization reboot experiment must consider the underlying psychology to achieve widespread adoption.
- Edge of Knowledge 1000 Hour Curriculum - education program, normalized throughout the world, that teaches people, at the essence, of how to get along with each other. It consists of reneissance person education for freedom, where one learns full agency and transforms into a collaborative steward of the world around us. This consists of 1000 lessons of the most distilled content that is worth learning across all knowledge and knowhow domains, both theoretical and applied hands-on, across all sectors and disciplines. This implies that the learning process involves hands on enterprise writ large, whatever the enterprise may be - but conforming to a pursuit of self-actualization and self-realization - therefore following the theory of self-determination. The starting point proposed is the time when any individual becomes functionally literate, or around 10-18 years of age. The proposed method is rapid learning, in a collaborative environment created intentionally for rapid learning, positive psychology, and the practice of creating prosperity for everyone. This is proposed as an alternative to disciplinary, unapplied education, which leaves individuals and societies disintegrated and incomplete, and therefore incapable of earnest pursuit of democratic principles. The 1000 lessons are literally 1000 one hour lessons, learnable in about 10,000 of practice, or 10 hours per lesson. Since this is a survey in nature, the focus is learning how to learn, think, and be an integrated human, with practical information used only to substantiate the learning-to-learn process. The concept is that when people learn to be integral thinkers capable of negotiating in complex systems, they can create benign applications - ie, reform civilization to increased prosperity and abundance. However, this does include all major known mental models of reality, ie, the key principles from all disciplines and sectors - from E=mc2 to principles of economics. This is consistent with a concept of lifelong learning, where one spends significant time on how to form accurate mental models of reality before learning actual content. This involves healing of psychological blocks or trauma of all types, and is as such a humanistic, whole person approach to educating the integrated human. This is intended to be a practical and benign implementation of human evolution, preferably with minimal violence, authoritarianism, genocide or other ill-conceived practices.
