Intent

The intent of the OSE License for Distributive entrprise is to be completely open source, OSHWA compliant, and to emphasize the economic goals of distributing the production of wealth. We believe that by unleashing economically significant information - distributed economies will be more regenerative and environmentally sounds - due to improved feedback loops between more localized production and more localized natural resources. The assumption is that an economy has an optimal scale - if wealth distribution is concerned - and the scale of critical material production should not be global, but more localized. While we believe that trade is good, we also believe that a more localized economic system is more resilient from shocks and from manipulation by third parties. The last statement appears obvious, by definition.

Economic Feedback Loops

We believe that all information should be free, to optimize the distribution of wealth. Currently, the global market system is optimized for the production of wealth, at the expense of both distribution of wealth and of environmental degradation. If we create a truly competitive (no protectionism) enterprise system - how do people create wealth? Abundantly, as nobody has an unfair advantage - or nobody can manipulate the system to socialize costs and privatize the benefits.

Can a truly open source, Distributive Enterprise scale? Yes, and its business model is not based on monetizing intellectual property. In one scenario, intellectual property is used for competitive advantage, profits are large, and costs are large. In the open source production scenario, costs go down, and society in general transitions to less energy spent procuring a certain lifestyle. So a transition can begin towards self-determination. The leading mechanism for a transition to self-determination is the lessening of negative marketing - such as that leading to deathly diet, bad health due to stress, consumerism, fear-mongering for militarism.

In the Distributive Enterprise model, collaborative development zeroes out many costs via volunteer effort - and everyone benefits by gaining access to products. In principle, Distributive Enerprises can scale virally - if they provide better marketability. We believed that improved marketability can occur by more environmentally friendly, economically distributive, flexible, lifetime design products.

To promote large-scale uptake of open source product development towards significant global impact, we believe that Distributive Enterprise is the key that takes us there. We believe that this is inevitable, and we believe that the first solid example of this - created within the context of the currect economomy - will disrupt the current economy. We believe that to be substance for a Nobel peace prize or equivalent, as eliminating artificial scarcity from the human economic system has the potential to end resource conflicts and other ills based on material scarcity.

In sum, we believe that open source hardware enterprises are the future - because they create better products - in all ways that 'better' can be defined. Better means lower cost, robust, highly efficient and optimized, more flexible, made from local and recycled materials, designed for lifetime, not obsolescence. Industrial productivity can be achieved on a small scale, and that knowhow can be distributed.

To convince a fervent mainstream economist that the current economic system has essential flaws in its notions of Intelletual Property - is like trying to convince people that the earth spins around the sun before Copernicus. There will be no convincing - just compelling - with evidence of Distributive Enterprise taking hold.
