Basics
- Unlike bacteria and viruses, fungi can be rather difficult to kill
- The chemicals sometimes used are hard to come by
- Luckily there are two microrganisms of use:
- A hyperparasitic (meaning parasite of a parasite) fungus: Ampelomyces quisqualis
and
- A bacteria: Bacillus subtilis
Ampelomyces quisqualis
- A fungus that is naturally parasitic to powder mildews
- A Whitepaper on Cultivation of Ampelomyces quisqualis
Bacillus subtilis
- A Bacteria that is readily available as a model organism
- Kills fungi
- Easily produced in standard bioreactors
