P2P plasmids

Problem framing: A large number of life science techniques rely the genetic information stored in plasmids. These plasmids are easily replicated and exchanged, but due to lack of channels of communication and the increasingly complex contractual obligations covering genetic information it is difficult for research institutions to distribute plasmids widely. Researchers that create useful recombinant DNA have the ability to get their designs into the wild, but lack incentives to do so. The new tool of blockchain smart-contracts can solve many of these distribution obstacles to create a market for recombinant DNA.

Overview

Tokens are generated by interacting with the blockchain by listing a plasmid, providing a plasmid, and verifying the fidelity of a plasmid. A provider decides to add their plasmid, and submits the necessary information (including MTA terms) and indicates they are willing to provide for a certain price. A request can be submitted by a participant with a bid that covers the asking price and any additional fees. The provider is given the option to accept, which will result in a partial payment and the revealing of the shipping address. Shipping and an receipt release the rest of the payment. A refundable fee on the requester to incentivize verifying receipt and fidelity of the plasmid.


MTA

Option to use OpenMTA or UBMTA, custom agreement, or no agreement necessary. Different reward structures are possible.

Functions

Deposit plasmid

Inventor deposits plasmid information on blockchain, additional rights holders are designated, and stock MTA and asking price listed. The depositor is credited 0.05 tokens. The MTA chosen will affect reward payout structure.

Additional rights holder

Add as a supplier

Adds a participant as a provider of a plasmid. Generates 0.01 new tokens.

Request a plasmid

Requestor submits a request, requiring deposit of the payment into a blockchain escrow and acceptance of the MTA. The requester submits their shipping address, which is encrypted and stored until the agreement is formed.

Agreement formed

The depositors (then suppliers) are informed of a request and given 3 days to agree or decline. Acceptance of a request results in an execution of the MTA and the address is released to the supplier. Supplier sends the plasmid and the agreement is completed.

Confirmation of delivery

Upon receipt of the plasmid the requestee confirms they received the plasmid, and the escrow is released to the supplier. The refundable fee is returned to the requestee.


Confirmation of fidelity

The requestee is asked to also confirm the fidelity of the plasmid, and receives different rewards for the level of verification.

The game

The game is to list plasmids early, generating tokens and getting deposit listings. The game is to generate plasmids with market demand. The game is to make the self-replication of plasmids an asset for monetization not a hindrance needing complicated agreements.
