Aaron,

My email is xxx

We are looking at how applications built using World Wind technology (Google Earth type 4D visualization) might support the open source hardware serving agricultural interests. This could be anything from driving the tractor to planning irrigation schemes based on weather, crop rotation, etc. The idea is to build applications that help the farmer put the hardware to its best use. For this reason, we would like establish criteria to challenge the university community to build software (using World Wind) to make the hardware more productive. http://eurochallenge.como.polimi.it/

Maybe these can help you see what I am suggesting:

http://www.farmworks.com/products/officesoftware

http://www.farmworks.com/products/fieldsoftware

http://www.landmagic.com/

What of these looks most attractive? Or design your own criteria for what you need. This can then be proposed as a potential project. We are trying to help the university students better appreciate what the European community needs so they can build it.

And of course, we'd love to have your endorsement for this type of effort. I would like more attention paid to OpenSourceEcology and I'd like the folks going that route to have as much smart technology helping them in the most sustainable way, helping each other.
