SEH 4 Final Coat Procedure
General: do corners first, so that runs are less likely. If corners are last, runs can occur due to spraying over wet paint. If corners first, there is no wet paint yet.
Ceiling 1st
- Observe subfloor joists. Sand or caulk any final defects.
- 310 shellac the bottom edges where needed
- 45 degree shellac 515 into corners
- Right angle to subfloor
- Right angle to bottom vertical of joists.
Thus, pattern is 5 passes per bay for 4 feet of surface, not counting 310 of bottom edges. 5 passes is just right on the conservative side, if each pass is actually counted as 6" wide effective width accounting for overlap. If effective width is 6, the number of passes would actually be 8.
Alt procedure:
- 45 degree on the bottom
- Bulk joist face
- Corner
- 3 underside of subfloor
- Same on other side - corner, bulk face, bottom of joist.
This is actually 9 passes. Maybe cut the 3 on underside to 2.
Side issues:
- going over doors, close them
- Tight space of bath - use ladder to see last joist?
- Above laundry and fridge - get on ladder to reach
- Clean with ammonia, then water - transition with water to ammonia bucket, then transition from water bucket to paint bucket
Walls 1st Floor
- Order is bath - then finish door with detail 311 + no extension. Under stair closet. Laundry inside. Kitchen. Fridge. Living. Stairway inside. Stairway outside (so inside work is undisturbed. Better yet, do stairway area after bath door, to test 311 no extension on stairway tight spots.
- Check the masking in area
- Spray! All of first floor 515.
- Tight space or acrobatics such as stairs, on banisters, under stair closet, etc- no extension, 517 quick couple gun
- Finish - use 310 around windows, doors and tight trim cracks, other detail. Ladder above doors, above tub, etc.
Other details:
- Go from under utility channel, make sure the underside there is painted
- Unplug vents in process.
- Finish first floor, then finish second.
- Floor transition: do bottom stair header vertical wall with extension from first floor, otherwise angle is difficult iw working from second floor or hoses rub
- Stair transition: 515 then switch to manual 517 Be flexible switching between extension and no extension.
- Floor transition part 3 - do up to utility channel strip from first floor, including quality job on stair-wall interface. May need 311 switch?
- Work up into stairway perhaps 1/3 way, so that hose doesn't run on sides.
- Then move equipment to 2nd floor, finish going down
2nd Floor
- Order is bath, br 1, br2 - any of these 3 - then stairs, then hall, then master bed.
- Ceiling room by room.
- Walls room by room
- Take each area to finish level, otherwise hoses drag on walls.
- Switch to no extension in hall as needed. Be flexible in switching heads.
