Sawmill Prototype I Technical Review
Your sawmill, you must change the blade rotation on the head saw. If that saw gets to the end of the cut and the piece ever leans over against the blade and the blade picks it up and if the person at the other end is in line with the piece, which he probably will at that point, it will embed a 10 foot 2x4 halfway through his chest. Also, move your blade carriage down to the halfway point, go back and sight down the length of your carriage. I believe you will see a bow in it. Your carriage must be rigid and straight, if it has spring in it, in certain conditions your blade will "hop". Either use heavier angles or attach a 3/8 cable to each end near the inside top, at one end with a turn buckle, cut a 3/8 chev wheel in half and attach it to the bottom inside of the carriage, string the cable down to the chev and tighten the turnbuckle till the carriage is straight and rigid. (A simple truck frame tensioner on the bottom may work too)The rack and pinion, put an index wheel on your mill make it heavier. Or even cheaper, use 50 roller chain for the rack and a sprocket for the pinion, that's what Mighty Mite did.
