Discussion

This relates to setting up a Jitsi Videobridge on OSE servers -

fyi, as a non-profit, we can use any of Atlassian's closed-source Server Products for free:

Atlassian is the company that acquired BlueJimp (the team that built Jitsi) in 2015. Atlassian continues to develop Jitsi products, and they're actually the ones that host https://meet.jit.si

As you can see in the below correspondence, I originally contacted Atlassian with the intention of using their Stride product, which utilizes Jitsi for video conference calls. But it seems that Stride (unlike Hipchat) is a Cloud Product, and I was given a free license for Hipchat instead.

I've since found that Stride has a limit of 25 participants and Hipchat has a limit of 20 participants.

I've used Hipchat before, and it leaves much to be desired. But, if it can actually hold 25 active participants (which we'd need to test), then maybe we can make 1 of those participants merely a listen-only stream that's recording & rebroadcasting it out over some HLS stream for hundreds of watch-and-listen-only real-time remote workshop participants (who certainly could interact via text chat).

And the fact that Atlassian actually develops Jitis may make it a step above Google Hangouts?

Of course, I'm still continuing with the POC for self-hosted, open-source Jitsi Meet or other Jitsi Videobridge-backed open-source solutions (ie: Rocket Chat). But it's good to know all our options..
