Considerations

  • Use a valve spring with correct spring pressure
  • Outside diameter fits into hole for spring
  • Positively locate the spring to avoid 'dancing'.
  • Consider using a spring retainer

Proper Handling

  • Handle with care
  • Never place in a vice, grab with pliers, or hit with a hammer
  • When separating springs, use a durable plastic object, not a screwdriver
  • Do not clean with acidic or evaporative cleaners - can cause rust
  • Use proper lubricant to ease assembly

Spring loads can be tested on a load tester.
Shims can be used to raise the spring up a bit.
Once installed, check for coil bind.
Springs need to break in. Limit initial RPMs (1500 to 2000).
