Talk:DC Grid Cost Savings

HVDC Transmission Lines / HVDC are being explored in some areas. You need way more complex switchgear (at least for now), but especially in terms of long distance/export etc it MAY be worth the cost.

Some of it is just Technological Lock In too where it doesn’t matter what is “best”, it matters what the Line Technicians know how to install/work with, and what is available COTS + in inventory, NOT what is “best”.

As per the War of the Currents etc too, Transformers are VERY convenient+cost effective.

At least for the short term, especially if government incentives/subsidies/nationalization etc are used it can probably be pushed forward.

A neat bit to mention is the concept of a Home DC Standard / Industrial DC Standard for basically a few meters off the PV Array / MPPT etc to a load like an Alkaline Electolyser or a Charge Bunker etc

A neat related concept was that Hydrogen Island / P2X Zone stuff the UK (and probably others) are doing. That’s a rant for another day.
