Airport Pickup and Cooking

Summary: Hospitality Master (HM) arrives one day early, rents or brings a van, does food shopping, and picks up people from the airport. HM cooks throught the week, and drops people off at the airport.

  • Instructors arrive the day before the workshop and we go over materials.
  • Instructors stay in the MicroHouse. There is a couch, a king size bed, and mattresses can be pumped up.
  • The Hospitality Master is responsible for both airport pickups and cooking duties for provision of all meals through the week. Hospitality Master handles all decisions on the food plan and any issues by communicating directly with the participants. OSE delegates this full responsibility to the Hospitality Master. OSE also delegates full responsibility for airport pickups to the Hospitality Master. Hospitality Master handles all issues regarding food and transportation pickup/dropoffs.
  • We tell participants to arrive before 8 PM for the normal 8 PM pickup. If they arrive later, they may be responsible for their own transportation.
  • Cook arrives early, buys food, and picks people up from the airport. Airport dropoff is the morning after the last day of events, the time is as early as required by participants, so be prepared to leave first thing in the morning.
  • Cook provides Event Menu and Budget. Event Menu determines the budget, and Hospitality Master determines the menu. OSE approves the menu.
  • Hospitality Master purchases food, and prepares the food at HabLab. There is an outdoor grill available, which requires propane replacement.
  • A point person is recruited for airport pickup. Airport pickup is at 8 PM, or earlier depending on the last person's arrival time. Traval to site is by 10 PM.
  • Logistics Master secures a car - either car rental, bring your car, borrow a car from someone else, or otherwise secure transportation. If the car is rented, OSE can cover the car rental. If the car is the person's, OSE can pay the standard 14 cents federal mile rate for service to charitable organizations [1].

Cooking Tasks

  • Replacement of propane cylinders. See Places to Get Propane in Maysville.
  • Hospitality Master may participate in event if there are not airport pickups/dropoffs and outside of food prep time.
  • Leaving event sessions 1-2 hours early to prepare food.
