Workshop Safety Course - Industry Standards
Read below:
Hi Clair,
It is part of the mission of the college to use the facilities for community events and adult continuous learning activities. Anything that relates to our mission or benefits one of our programs might get approval to take place on our campus.
Most of our programs don’t require a formal safety course prior to the start of any hands-on activities. We tend to teach the safety portion immediately before the activity takes place through a hazard analysis and proper safety protocol. Of course there are insurance and liability issues, but you may remember that we had everyone sign a liability waiver prior to the start of the course. The faculty that were there to assist have all been through formal safety training.
The industry standard for a brief safety course is the OSHA 10. There are many websites that offer this course for under $100. This may be an option for you as well.
The main reason this ran here is because of faculty sponsorship. I think you may have some difficulty in Milwaukee unless you know someone that works directly in that department. Have you considered the Makerspace in Milwaukee. I bet they would be interested in assisting with facilities. http://milwaukeemakerspace.org/
