Project details

Why was the project initiated and what does it aim to achieve?

The project was initiated with the goal to develop the Global Village Construction Set - a modular, Do-It-Yourself, low-cost, high-performance platform that allows for the easy fabrication of the 50 different industrial machines that it takes to build a small, sustainable civilization with modern comforts. The project is open source and focuses on open source business models for replication by any interested producer.

How does the project measure its achievements?

Number of people trained for successful startup of distributive economic enterprise.

How does the project benefit the community and/or environment?

By building an advanced industrial economy in a box that can be deployed inexpensively anywhere in the world introduces a realistic possibility of the world transitioning to post-scarcity economies. Immediate benefits are:

  • localization of the production - creating local jobs and local products.
  • using local resources for building and feeding the machines.
  • 6-10 times cost reduction of the machines in comparison to their industrial equivalents.
  • sharing economically significant information in the public domain which can be used not only by the current generation, but also by generations afterwards.

How does the project use environmental resources sustainably?

  • Using earth for building houses, e.g. the Compressed Earth Brick Press.
  • Using sun for generating energy. e.g. Solar Concetrators and biomass fuels.
  • Modularity of the machines enables reusability and multiuse of the modules.
  • Machines are designed to be easily disassembled leading to their possible and easy repairability. In this way buying new machines or machine parts and generating waste are avoided.
  • Machines follow system design considering the complete human and natural ecosystem.
  • Closed-loop manufacturing and material cycles are achieved by recycling metal into virgin feedstock for producing further GVCS technologies.

Please write in no more that 250 words why you think this project deserves to win World Challenge.

We are doing essential work on a scalable, open source product development pipeline – a social platform for rapid deployment of economically-significant, open source technology – to opensource the world and transition to post-scarcity economies.

How would the prize money be invested to make your enterprise financially sustainable (we welcome submission of a 3-5 year business/development plan with your nomination to support this statement, as word, excel, powerpoint or plain text)?

We have been on donations the whole time, now we have demonstrated $7k/month generated via production earnings, next goal is $20-80k/month, involving training within the production runs, where people exchange labor for immersion training.

No time for biz plans, were moving forward too fast.
