Overview
3D CAD may include 3 main products: the CAD file, screenshot, and screencast. The screenshot is a visual representation of the file so someone can get a bearing on what's inside. The screencast is informative in that it helps a person understand the design readily.
The 3D CAD documents should also link to OSE-approved Module Library - see also Part Library
Process
(Update: we are migrating to FreeCAD starting late 2015.)
- Upload your CAD file, and screenshots for reference - to the wiki page.
- To generate 3D CAD for mechanical devices, use stock parts found in the Warehouse.
- See Sketchup Tutorial 1 and Sketchup Tutorial 2.
- Start a new Sketchup document.
- Copy objects from the Warehouse file, and paste into your new Sketchup document.
- Rotate and arrange objects to create your complete design.
- Use RecordMyDesktop with full voice quality and 10% video quality to record a video overview of the design and features - this communicates the design most readily to others for review. At 10%, rendering is almost immediate for a 1 minute video. You can use higher video quality.
