Basics

• Tar as a (by)product of coal/coke Combustion / Gassification / Pyrolysis
• Essentially a heavy distillate of pyrolysis oil
• Can lead to clogging of equipment
• Can be used for fuel, waterproofing, medicine (supposedly?), and be upgraded to other hydrocarbons
